Role Profile

ZSL is seeking an experienced and adaptable individual to be responsible for managing intake, allocating stock throughout the business / season, monitor stock sales, reconciling invoices and delivery discrepancies. As the Junior Merchandiser you will assist in maximising the profitability of ZSL, within the Buying and Merchandising (B&M) function through effective stock management and control of product intake. In addition you will be responsible for managing product categories and contribute to the overall forecasting, analysis and delivery of a profitable and commercial range from the supply base to store, that maximises every sales opportunity.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Merchanding function in working closely with the Buying team to plan ranges, sales targets and category splits each season.
  • Producing robust range plans by category and sub category to assist in creating ranges that represents a Good, Better, Best offer and a robust pricing architecture.
  • Facilitating the quick and efficient resolution of any stock issues / slow sellers / delivery issues.
  • Actioning weekly reports and analysis for the Merchandising team.
  • Leading weekly sales updates with the Operations teams
  • Working with the supplier for the prompt input of flows to ensure alignment between production and commitment.
  • Developing excellent relationships with other teams within the business to aid the B&M process.
  • Ensuring stock is in the correct place at the right time of year in the correct volumes to optimise profitability.
  • Managing and ensuring the updating of the delivery schedule, assessing stock requirements and communication to the supply base, Warehouse and Operations teams.

Person Specification

ZSL accepts and welcomes all applications for this position however; ideal candidates will have already worked as an Assistant Merchandiser ready for the next level or be an existing Junior Merchandiser looking for a new challenge, and will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Educated to degree standard in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience of engaging with a wide range of stakeholders: Including Suppliers and Management.
  • Flexible and organised approach to workload and able to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and proficient working with Microsoft Office packages.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to identify problems and implement appropriate solutions.

Please Note: Whilst the role is based at London Zoo the functional nature of the job may require the post holder to also work at Whipsnade Zoo as and when necessary. As such a Full UK Driver’s License is desirable. This position is offered on a 15 months fixed term contract with the possibility of an extension.
