Mayfield Nurseries is a subsidiary social enterprise of Solent Mind.  We are a plant nursery and a mental health charity and strongly believe that gardening and the outdoor environment has a significant positive impact on our health and wellbeing

We are currently recruiting for a

Community Development Worker- Horticulture – 22.5 Hours – 3 days a week - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Fixed Term Contract to September 2021

Working in partnership with Southampton City Council, the purpose of this role is to encourage residents living on estates in Southampton to engage in gardening to bring about positive change to the places in which they live, building healthier and happier communities.  This role will combine community development with horticulture to make a lasting difference to people living in Southampton.

Working three days a week covering three different social housing sites in Southampton you will be responsible for:

  • Engaging residents in gardening activities to improve their local environment.
  • Developing planting schemes to add interest and vibrancy to the local areas
  •  Improving, and maintaining planted areas including weeding, plant maintenance and planting.
  • To assist with the development, growing and participatory involvement at the community greenhouse in Millbrook.
  • Partnership working with other organisations and community groups to make a lasting impact to these areas
  • The effective development, monitoring and evaluation of activities within this project.

As a ‘people person’ you will be able to share your enthusiasm and expertise in horticulture to inspire others to become actively involved in improving their residential environments.  This project is for three years, with a potential for extension.
