Job Description

Seeking outstanding Trustee to help grow England's largest new broadleaf forest

The Heart of England Forest is an exciting and ambitious charity, created by the late entrepreneur and poet, Felix Dennis. Felix passionately believed in reversing centuries of woodland decline by planting one of the largest forests in England.

Our goal is to create a huge, unbroken or contiguous woodland of 30,000 acres – a refuge from the modern world where people can rediscover nature and wildlife can flourish. Achieving our vision will take decades, but the process will enrich the lives and wellbeing of millions of people for centuries to come. The forest stretches up the Warwickshire / Worcestershire border, from the present-day borders of Shakespeare’s Forest of Arden to the edge of the Vale of Evesham – the north Cotswolds to south Birmingham. We’re creating a place to walk under shady canopies and through airy glades, away from the bustle of city life.

The Heart of England Forest is looking for new Trustees to join our Board. We need to expand our Board with additional people who share our vision, and are passionate about woodland creation in the heart of England. If you have the time to commit; can think strategically; and have expertise in at least two of the areas below, we would like to hear from you.

· Woodland creation and management / nature conservation

· Land management

· Education / community engagement

· Membership development

· Fundraising and marketing

· Networking and relationship building

· Good working knowledge of the geographic area of the Heart of England Forest.

As a member of our Board of Trustees you will help to ensure that the Heart of England Forest fulfils its duty to its beneficiaries through delivering our charitable objects, vision, mission and values.

In return, we’ll look for commitment to our vision and aims, a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to fulfilling the role, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a small team.

Planting tomorrow’s great native woodland

Planting tomorrow’s great native woodland has already started.  With over 6,000 acres of land, the forest itself currently consists of 600 acres of mature woodland and over 3,400 acres of new planting. We aim to plant 300 acres of new woodland each year and our future plans include the development of the forest as a visitor destination with woodland walks, nature trails, recreational pursuits and a visitor’s hub housing an education centre. The small staff team is supplemented by a growing number of volunteers, and together we have already planted over 1.6 million trees, embarking on the creation of a large forest for people and wildlife.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
