Trustees
stand alone charity

Job Description

Stand Alone Charity is looking for two new Trustees to join our board and guide us in the fulfilment of our strategic plan over the next five years.

Stand Alone is an awareness raising charity, supporting people of all ages who have no contact with their family or a key family member. We work alongside many different partners to improve recognition and support for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

We put an emphasis on generating research and awareness around family estrangement and disownment, influencing policy and building innovative national support services for those who are living in society without connection to a family network or key family member.

We are a fast growing and innovative charity, founded four years ago. We have spent these years building our presence and reputation to great success in the areas of research, awareness, policy and support.

The current board of Trustees have recently created an ambitious five year strategic plan, and we are looking for two new board members to help us in growing carefully and sustainably. Our Trustees don't often contribute operationally within the charity, but do act as a sounding board for the operations team. You would engage in Trustee meetings, overseeing the bigger picture of the charity, and advise on specific projects and develpments using your expertise.

Considering our growth, we are particularly looking for Trustees with change management, businesscounselling, senior management, or legal experience, but would consider anyone who feels strongly and passionately for our cause and our work.

We are hoping to recruit Trustees who understand our organisation and its importance, and are able to help us make key decisions. You would be involved in helping us develop and plan our capacity and expansion over the next five years, as well as manage risk around the change this will bring.

As a candidate, we would like you to be a team player, a committed volunteer, and someone who is not scared to add ideas and thoughts to a conversation. However, we are looking for Trustees who can also listen as much as they can contribute, and be content to be part of a corum. It's crucial that you understand the charity and its emphasis, and think freely about social issues. The charity doesn't encourage a blanket bias towards reconciliation, and we support beneficiaries in their own decsion around what is best for them and their family situation.

The Trustee board meets four times per year, often on a weekday evening in Kings Cross. We hold one away day per year in June. Alongside these meetings, we organise ocassional social events throughout the year.

To express your interest, please forward a recent CV and a short one page covering letter via CharityJob by 8th June 2017. Please make sure you have included contact details such as email and telephone numbers.

It is highly recommended that you visit and explore our website prior to applying.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
