Job Description

Hi, we’re 10:10 – we bring people together to do bold, beautiful things that help tackle climate change.

Are you someone with a passion for tackling climate change in a way that gets everyone involved? Are you a creative thinker with a positive, practical attitude? Do you get fired up by the climate solutions already at our fingertips and want to see them getting the attention they deserve?  Do politics, climate and energy policy float your boat - but the thought of wearing a suit make you want to run a mile? Where have you been all our life?

We’re looking for a campaigns manager to join our campaigns team and lead on delivery of some of our trademark positive, participatory public campaigns, accelerating the move to a low carbon Britain. With a rapidly changing political climate, 10:10’s work responding to the carbon cutting challenge is needed now more than ever. We need a savvy campaigner with an eye for engagement and impact who can help us seize opportunities to turn broad and shallow public backing for climate action into an active force ready to demand it. Our ideal candidate would have some experience in a campaigning field and a sense of what it takes to mobilise people and influence decision makers.

About the role

You’ll be a key member of the campaigns team, responsible for projects which require both campaigning and communications brains, and designed to challenge the barriers to the low carbon future we want. Supported by colleagues you’ll contribute to the design and planning of campaigns - and take responsibility for delivering them. You’ll work collaboratively with the communications team to spread our key messages far and wide, and leverage the greatest impact possible.

As someone working on live issues you’ll be expected to pick up and run with relevant contextual information, and be able to write copy that can keep the public and supporters informed and engaged - making things simple and positive. Working within strategy and project plans that have been collaboratively developed, you’ll be able to put forward your own ideas for campaign activities, particularly in reaction to changing events. Different campaigns mean different tactics, so you’ll be adaptable and relish turning your hand to different approaches, from online petitions to publicity grabbing interventions.

You’ll report to the lead campaigner and work alongside other campaigns team members as well as the communications and fundraising teams. As a key member of the 10:10 family you’ll be part of a small, passionate, nimble, unique and positive organisation that cares about its people, its project and , ultimately, the planet.

Climate change sucks, we’re doing something about it. Come join us.

Competencies can be demonstrated by both paid and voluntary experience.

Must-haves

  • Demonstrable experience of campaign delivery.

  • High standard of written and spoken communication skills.

  • Ability to think creatively and generate new campaign and tactic ideas.

  • Ability to digest, understand and analyze information independently.

  • Adaptability, enthusiasm and ability to take initiative.

  • Flexibility around work schedules.

  • Basic working knowledge of UK climate and energy context and policy.

  • Commitment to 10:10’s positive approach to climate campaigning.

  • Experience of working with mainstream media and social media.

About 10:10

We’re on the way to a cleaner, cleverer, low-carbon world, and everyone deserves a chance to help build it. 10:10 creates these opportunities, and brings people together to make the most of them. We take a collective approach, turning individual actions at a local level into a force for bigger changes.

We don’t have any secret formulas or silver bullets, but we do have an amazing community of people working together to power a village with local hydro power, stand up for onshore wind and tell tales of solutions and optimism.

So we dream up projects, build tools and spread success stories to make sure these people have the help and inspiration they need to keep going further. Recent campaigns include Solar Schools, Keep Fits, Blown Away, Energy Local, It’s Happening and Back Balcombe. Unfortunately we can't use hyper links in this job post so just head to the projects tab on our website to check these campaigns out.

As an organisation we’re committed to our culture. We operate with a flat management team (instead of a CEO) and try to reduce hierarchy wherever we can. Organisational culture away days keep our values and principles alive and we work together to keep our team as supported, empowered and cared for as possible. Recent new policies include sabbaticals and paid volunteer leave, and we’re committed to supporting non professional activists by sharing our space and skills.

And there’s cake. Arguably too much cake.

How to apply

Please send a CV and covering letter, preferably as two separate attachments, to the email address that we have specified alongside this post, with “campaigns manager” in your email subject line by 5pm on the 1st of March. You will need to be available for interviews in the week commencing 6th March. We would also appreciate it if you could complete an equal opportunities monitoring form. This will be stored separately to your application and is purely to help 10:10 assess and improve our recruitment processes.

In your covering letter, tell us a bit about why you think you’re suited to the role - referring to the person specification - why you want to work for us and what you think you’d bring to the team. 10:10 is committed to providing equal opportunities for all applicants regardless of their background. We value diversity whilst also acknowledging that people from certain backgrounds are underrepresented in our organisation. We are keen to correct this, so particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic people; people who identify as having a disability; people from the LGBT+ community; and people who identify as working class (or have done in the past). If you don’t feel confident enough to apply, please get in touch with us for a chat – we’d love to talk to you!
