Job Description

Purpose of Role:

Under the guidance of the Travel Assistance Scheme Manager to develop and deliver a travel training programme to support vulnerable and/or disabled children and adults. The aim of the programme is to teach the client group to travel independently to school, college, work or social activities and medical appointments. Recruit, train and support volunteers to be Travel Buddies for the programme. Develop strategies to ensure the programme’s sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

To enable Voluntary Services Lewisham (VSL) client groups to develop effective road safety and independent travel skills over a given route. To undertake risk assessment for each individual to identify risks both during travel training and when they are travelling independently. To create a person centred week-by-week training programme for each individual. To ensure family members and carers are informed about all aspects of the travel training programme and to provide them with the necessary support. To meet with referring agencies to identify suitable individuals for the programme. To adhere to best practice following correct procedures and VSL policies. To work with local agencies to promote the programme and to develop and strengthen capacity. To develop and lead on the recruitment, training, selection and supervision of programme volunteers. To adopt a flexible approach to hours worked to attend supervisions etc outside of core hours in accordance to the needs of the client group and organisations To attend appropriate training and development sessions as required To keep accurate daily records, analysing statistics and producing written reports meeting deadlines. Attend staff meetings and contribute to the overall development of VSL To carry out other duties as agreed with the Travel Assistance Scheme Manager.
