Job Description

My client is a cancer charity based in the City of London looking for an experienced and passionate Head of Community and Events to join their existing team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the strategic direction of the Community & Events fundraising programme; Driving new initiatives to meet growth targets in both community and events fundraising.
  • Lead on development of strategic plans and budgets for the year and contribute to quarterly fundraising reports for the Board
  • To oversee the Target 1000 membership scheme, communicating with the members about upcoming activities and events and acknowledging their support
  • To develop and oversee Awareness Month fundraising activities to ensure continued growth and that income targets are achieved each year
  • To manage the development of new initiatives to continue to grow community fundraising, such as approaches to community groups, new product development and promotion and to ensure we make the most of digital opportunities with the new website.
  • To oversee the Cancer Walk including successful promotion and recruitment of walkers and ensure smooth running of the walks by managing the events companies. Oversee any media relationships and plan and monitor effectively for future expansion.
  • To oversee all sporting and challenge events and suggest new events for us to promote to supporters to encourage them to take part to help grow the database and income.
  • To oversee the development of special events such as comedy nights, balls and other exclusive events.

Essential candidate criteria:

  • Knowledge and experience of charity fundraising
  • Experience of strategic planning and activity co-ordination
  • Extensive experience in marketing or fundraising event management ideally from within a charity community, corporate or events team.
  • Successful track record in managing, supporting and developing staff.
  • Experience in negotiating contracts with suppliers and agencies
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of community and events fundraising
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and project manage work
  • Proven ability to manage income/expenditure budgets and KPI’s to deliver appeals/events within defined budgets
