Carers Trust is the largest UK wide charity for the nation’s 7 million unpaid carers. Together with 170 Network Partners, we provide support, information, advice and services for children, young people and adults caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend.  The number of carers is a growing issue, with 3 in 5 of us likely to become a carer at some point in our lifetime. Carers save the UK economy over £119bn every year and act as a main support to our stretched health and social care systems.

We are currently looking for a Project Officer to deliver a new Department for Education funded project that will build the capacity of local authorities and schools to identify and support young carers; raise their awareness of new duties under the Care Act 2014 and the Children and Families Act 2014 and promote a consistent and collaborative approach to multi-agency working.

You will be working within the Carers Trust young and young adult carers’ team that works in a policy, campaigning and developmental capacity to improve the lives of young and young adult carers. You will also be working in collaboratively with our partner organisation for this project.

You will be responsible for the day to day management of the project, including the communication with and engagement of stakeholders and supporting the dissemination of project learning via events, webinars and content for websites and bulletins. With support from colleagues, you will deliver and coordinate consultancy for three local authorities.

The successful candidate, who will be closely supported by the Project and Development Manager, will have experience of delivering development projects involving a wide range of stakeholders and undertaking strategic service development.

They will have knowledge of legislation, policy and good practice in relation to supporting carers, especially young and young adult carers and their families, as well as an understanding of local authority structures and the current commissioning environment.

This is a challenging role and a great opportunity for someone who would like to channel their knowledge and experience into improving the lives of young and young adult carers and their families.

Closing date for applications is 12 noon on 20 May with interviews on 2 June in London.
