Trustee - Wales
family fund

Job Description

The Family Fund is a unique grant-giving charity with a 42 year history supporting low income families raising disabled or seriously ill children and young people across the UK.

Last year the Family Fund provided much needed support to more than 68,000 families with grant funding of £35million, a significant part of which came from the four UK governments.  Our support helps break down some of the barriers and ease the additional pressures that many families face, we work hard to make life easier, making a difference to a family’s well-being, their opportunities, and the lives of their children.

We are looking to appoint an exceptional individual who will bring passion and commitment, as well as skills and experience to our Board. Trustees play an active role in governing the charity and are responsible for setting vision, strategic priorities, and for ensuring that the charity complies with legal, charitable and financial requirements.

Representing our work across the UK is of great importance to the charity so for this appointment we are looking for someone who is a resident in Wales.  We are interested in hearing from parents, researchers and professionals who have or have had relevant experience and expertise in the areas of disability policy, fundraising, human resources and marketing. We particularly welcome candidates with direct experience of caring for a disabled or seriously ill child or young person, and are keen to improve the diversity profile of our Board.

The Board meets at least four times a year, three in York and once in one of the three devolved nations’ capitals.  In between we communicate regularly by email and occasional teleconference. The positions are unremunerated, but reasonable expenses can be recovered from the charity
