Lewisham Speaking Up, the advocacy project for and led by people with learning disabilities based in Lewisham is looking for a sessional

Self-Advocacy Supporter to join our bank of sessional workers.

The person we seek will have considerable experience of working to support people with learning disabilities. They will have experience of empowering them to take control of their lives, ideally within the advocacy sector. They will have experience of organising and supporting group work and activity.

They will have a good and practical understanding of accessible working, including experience of working with people with learning disabilities in a way that supports their rights, voice and choices.

Candidates will need have a good understanding of advocacy practice and principles, and issues that concern adults with learning disabilities. They will demonstrate significant experience gained with individuals or groups possibly within the learning disability service or social work sectors.

Lewisham Speaking Up is working to deliver the only independent advocacy service of its type within the borough. We proudly support the highly regarded Lewisham People’s Parliament, plus associated self advocacy groups and activity. Our work offers a challenging yet rewarding context for individuals with a commitment and enthusiasm for independent advocacy.

This is a flexible sessional position paid hourly every month and includes a generous annual leave allowance [pro rata].
